Inexpensive Gift Idea for Any Occasion

This is a perfect gift for the sweet tooth in your life, friends or co-workers.

A gift that’s sure to please and cost is completely up to you. It is something that works out fantastic for times when you need to give out multiple gifts as well. The money spent, all depends on the gift wrapping that you choose.

Home made cookies or store bought. Home made candied pecans or store bought. You choose. The wrapping can be anything from a brown paper lunch bag tied with ribbon, a cookie tin, or basket wrapped in colored cellophane.

The gift recipient on your mind most likely has a favorite cookie and you probably know what that is. You’re already off to a fantastic start.

Combine some of those cookies with a cup or two of some candied pecans, (recipe to follow), wrap them up in a simply decorated gift bag or elaborate gift bag or box, with ribbon or ties that compliment the gift, and you’re done. Do a small, or go all out, it’s up to you.

Fancy or simple, what they will remember is enjoying the sweets tucked inside, and the giver that remembered them. So do something special for those on your list. It’s also a fantastic project for kids to get involved; helping you will let them feel vital and special. Allow children to participate in any component, from baking, bagging, decorating, wrapping or all of the above. They will be proud to give something they helped to make. And only you will know the cost.

Candied Pecans:

-Preheat oven to 275°.

-Line a cookie sheet with waxed, or parchment paper, and spray with cooking spray.

-Beat one egg white with whisk until stiff and fluffy.

-Whisk in 1 cup of firmly packed brown sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla until smooth and creamy.

-With a wide spoon, (I like to use a rice paddle) stir in 4 cups of whole pecans until evenly coated.

-Pour nut mixture onto the baking sheet and separate as much as possible.

-Bake until brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.

-Remove tray from the oven and let cool.

(*For a twist of flavor- substitute strawberry, cherry or amaretto extract for the vanilla.)
