Kids and Vegetables, Don’t Mix Well at Your House?

I reckon I’ve known only one or two children in my life time that really liked to eat vegetables.

If this is a concern to you, I have a very simple solution. It’s been a long time struggle between parent and child at dinner time, mom and dad know that Junior needs to eat his peas and carrots, but Junior will have no part of it. Blech! Excellent nutrition does not have to be a battle at your dinner table any more.
Here is an answer: The Blender. Yes, the blender.

I have been sneaking veggies into my children’s small tummies for years now, and they’ve been none the wiser. The secret is in the gravy. As you may know; gravy of all kinds and flavors are simple to make, whether out of a store bought packet or home made, it goes fantastic on most foods. From potatoes, rice and even pasta, you can usually find a flavor or sauce that will compliment your dish.

It doesn’t take a large amount of vegetable to give your child the nutrition that he needs to be healthy. Just by adding a ¼ cup of peas, carrots, broccoli, spinach or any other veggie into the blender with a splash of water, allows you to blend in vitamins and minerals to your gravy, pasta sauce and even cream sauces and soups. I have even snuck onions into of my kid’s meals, and they never noticed. This small trick will not only hide the veggies from their eyes, it really makes food more flavorful.

I’m not saying that it isn’t excellent to introduce Junior to vegetables and let him make up his mind to eat them by choice, he may like them. In that case, you can count your blessings. This thought of blending them into sauces and gravy is for those of you who have already faced the battle and feel like you are loosing the war.

So go ahead, serve those veggies and let your children reckon that they have you beat, the joke is on them, and you are the only person that needs to know.
