How Well Are you Prepared In Case of Immediate Disaster?

In the back of my mind I have these thoughts of having to survive a terrorist attack or something. I wonder exactly how long I could last. If the electricity were to be cut off, what would I do for lights? How would I cook food? How would I get water? How about heat if it is cold? My mind is full of different scenarios. So I have my priorities.

First of all I have what I call my survival room. Besides all the usual home canned food in my pantry, I keep food on hand in that room. Canned meat, fish, vegetables and potatoes, carrots and onions stored in a cool place. I keep a Coleman camp stove and a few canisters of propane on hand. Kerosene lamps are always ready, just in case the batteries go dead in the flashlights.

Drinking water is kept in 5-gallon water containers. I also keep on hand a excellent supply of colloidal silver just in case I need to purify the water. Colloidal silver can be used to de-contaminate vegetables as well. It also serves a an antibiotic. I make my own, fresh every week.

A kerosene heater will be used if the electricity goes out. Also there is a wood stove in the sauna that would serve the purpose of heating and cooking. It has been done before. Sleeping bags and quilts are in the closet ready at a moments notice. I keep powdered milk in large container in case the emergency is long term. I change the water once a month to keep it fresh for drinking. The propane and kerosene supply is always stocked.

Nowadays a person has to be prepared for most anything. My family could survive with what we have on hand for a excellent four to five months without going to a store. I stock up on coffee, sugar, flour, wheat berries, canned milk and dry milk. If someone takes medicine they should try to keep a 90-day supply. Gasoline for the generator is also necessary, if you have a generator.

These are just a few of the steps I have been keeping in place for years. I am sure you can come up with more. It depends on your lifestyle and what is truly vital.

Everything I write about is from personal observation and life experiences. I like to cook and prepare foods in different ways. I like sharing my experiences about food and cooking. My website pothaven.com pothaven.com was made because of my interest in quality cookware and cooking.
