Tips on Choosing an Outdoor Barbecue Grill

Just about every weekend, thousands of people around the country are enjoying the benefits of outdoor barbecuing with their families. Of course for an outdoor barbecuing event to truly succeed, you need an high quality outdoor barbecue grill. So, what exactly is an outdoor barbecue grill?

You have probably seen them either at the local home improvement or home and garden center. Even some of the larger supermarkets are carrying them these days.

An outdoor grill usually has a porcelain covered metal grid cooking surface. This grid is mounted over a heat source that can get over, believe it or not, 500 degrees Fahrenheit! And it is this particular feature that makes your barbecue grill worth its weight in gold.

Now there are quite a few different types to choose from when it comes to an outdoor barbecue grill; and there are two in particular that will be addressed here since these are the most common options… The first type is a charcoal barbecue grill, and the other is the gas grill. Within each of these types there are a multitude of models, and they all vary in size and shape, as well as the various “bells and whistles” that are included in each.

Here are some more information on each of these two types of grills:

Gas Barbecue Grill

As you can probably tell, the gas grill uses gas as its source of power. This is certainly the more pricey option of the two. A gas barbecue grill comes with all kinds of bells and whistles that are not available in a standard charcoal grill. One of the huge benefits with this type of a grill is that you can start cooking nearly immediately after firing up the grill, which can be a huge time saver.

Another benefit is the source of fuel. You can get it just about anywhere and it doesn’t make all the smoke that is typical when cooking with a charcoal grill. By the way, this does not mean that the grill does not flare up… because it does, just like its charcoal variety. A final benefit I want to mention is that the gas grills are a heck of a lot simpler to clean up than a charcoal grill. No mess, which equals less hassle and effort.

The Charcoal Outdoor Barbecue Grill

The charcoal grill is more economical than the gas grill, since it lacks a lot of the features of the gas grill. They do but come in a variety of styles. One thing you need to consider is to pay attention where you are installing a charcoal barbecue grill outdoors (in other words, you need to pay attention to your surroundings), due to the fact that this type of grill has a tendency to have flare ups. You also need to be more aware of the weather conditions.

Another downside to a charcoal grill is that there is no way to control the intensity of heat. So, if you are not careful your food could turn into charcoal. Terrible jokes aside, there is also the problem with clean up since you are using charcoal as the fuel source. It can get pretty messy…

Again, there are other outdoor barbecue grill models available (such as the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill), but whatever you choice might be, just make sure your choice is based on your needs, not features.
