Mangosteen Juice

Mangosteen juice, a tropical fruit beverage, is made by liquefying the seeds, rind, and flesh of the mangosteen, a tropical fruit that originated in countries like Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Mangosteen is now being cultivated in Brazil and India to be imported to other Western countries. It is not widely available in America at this time, but the juice imports are helping to bring this fruit to the country.

Being the same size as that of an apple, mangosteen fruits have a thick outside layer (rind), white interior segments like that of an orange, and large seeds. Like other nutritious fruits, the mangosteen is rich in vitamins C, B1, B2, B6, iron, potassium, calcium, and other minerals.

Native Southeast Asians claim that the mangosteen juice is a “miracle” cure to a lot of illnesses as it contains exceptional amounts of antioxidants and a chemical compound known as Xanthones. While medicinal experts have not confirmed the numerous assertions of mangosteen juice bottlers, many companies claim that this tropical fruit can really cure everything including cancer, dysentery, and bacterial infections, to name a few. But, they only based this on a few random studies made in laboratories, or on animals, that have shown positive reactions to doses of Xanthones and antioxidants.

For the record, there is still no primary study on humans that has proven the health benefits and illness treatment of mangosteen juice. But, it is safe to conclude that increasing the dosage of antioxidants intake daily, even from food supplements only, can really boost the body’s absorption of vitamins, therefore, strengthening the body’s immune system. Thus, we can say that the mangosteen’s power of prevention and cure may really come from the antioxidants it carries.

As an ancient remedy, mangosteen juice has been used for centuries in the fruit’s countries of origin like Thailand and Philippines and it does seem to treat a lot of health conditions. A few of which are dehydration, diarrhea, dysentery, and infection on cuts and bruises. Today, it is being widely suggested that this mangosteen juice really has the characteristics of an antihistamine, anti-aging, antibiotic, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory, even if it has not been proven yet.

We may never really know the truth about the healing properties of the mangosteen juice. But at least we know that it does make a sweet, tasty, and refreshing beverage.
